Yes, but it’s important to select the proper settings, attachments, techniques, and vacuum type since many household vacuums are designed to clean wall-to-wall carpets and hardwood.
Based on our rigorous testing, here are some of the things that we’ve found to work best:
Settings
If available on your vacuum model, use low suction/low power and high pile height settings.
Helpful Tips:
- If your vacuum has a “high carpet” setting, this will likely be the best option for use on our Rug Covers.
Attachments
Floor attachments, with or without a rotating brush, are generally compatible with our rugs as long as bristles are soft and pliable.
Helpful Tips:
-
If your floor attachment has a fixed or rotating brush with hard, stiff bristles, we recommend disabling/removing the brush or using handheld attachments. Hard bristles can damage your Rug Cover, especially along the threaded edges and corners.
-
Rotating bristles that are gentle enough for use on our Rug Covers can often help restore the appearance of higher pile textures like Shag, Plush, or Tufted rugs after wash.
Technique
For most vacuums, a traditional push and pull motion will work on our rugs.
Helpful Tips:
-
If you are experiencing separation between the cover and pad, try a push motion only (i.e., push along the rug away from you and lift the vacuum off the Rug Cover before bringing it back towards you).
-
Avoid vacuuming the edges and corners - these can become damaged, especially by harsh bristles on vacuum attachments.
-
We recommend periodically vacuuming or sweeping under your Rug Pad to prevent the build-up of dirt and dust, and to maximize the performance of the non-slip backing.
